For Sale – Bieker 650 – Ghost Rider’
$65,000 USD
Price Reduced $60,000 USD
‘Ghost Rider’ was designed and engineered by Paul Bieker from Bieker Yacht Design,
for Phil Jameson to race in the front row of the grid with the New Zealand
Sportsboat fleet.
Paul had previously designed the very successful Bieker 765 ‘Helter Skelter’, also for
Phil in 2003 She still enjoys some fantastic results within the current fleet after 16
years of sailing.
Construction
The build is entirely from carbon fiber and nomex.
The hull was moulded using female carbon tooling, produced by Core Composites Ltd in
New Zealand. Famous for the construction of 2 (x) winning Americas’s Cup multi-hull yachts
for Oracle Team USA.
Larger panels including hull shell and deck were built from pre-impregnated carbon fiber
while taping and detailing was wet laminate.
All wet laminate taping has been vacuumed, resulting in great consolidation and reduction
in excess resins.
Rig
The mast, boom and bowsprit are supplied by C-Tech Ltd in New Zealand.
A joint at spreader #1, allows the mast to be split into 2 pieces to allow better storage.
These sections nest well into the cockpit for consolidated packing.
All control lines and halyards are built by Gottifredi Maffioli in Italy. The standing rigging is
PBO (polybenzoxazole) fiber, encased in an SK78 braided jacket.
Spreaders are tapered carbon fiber, laminated to the mast tube.
The boom is a rectangular section to provided better stiffness from the high vang loads.
Bowsprit is a tapered laminate, built on a 100mm mandrel.
Keel fin
The Carbon fiber fin is female moulded using vacuumed standard modulus wet laminated
carbon fiber.
Internal shear web is douglas fir timber encased in a carbon wrap. 80kg Core-cell foam is
used in the leading and trailing edges. Leading edge is taped to avoid splitting.
Keel fin has a square truck to allow a ‘machine fit’ within the centreboard case.
The fin is locked in place using 2 (x) CS M12 fasteners.
Bulb is cast from a CNC cut plug. Finished bulb weight is 120kg
Keel and bulb are painted with durapox and have a wet-sanded finish.
Rudder #1
This complete rudder assembly carries an adjustable hydrofoil
measuring 1600mm in width
Rudder #2
This complete rudder assembly carries an adjustable hydrofoil
measuring 1120mm in width
Rudder #3
This is a conventional rudder. No hydrofoil, designed for sailing in
lighter breeze.
All rudders are identical construction. Vacuumed wet laminate carbon fiber with shearweb
and core-cell foam. Built from female tooling.
All rudders are painted with durapox and have a wet-sanded finish.
